Barbara Bush recalls her visit in Warsaw in 1987:
I had another strange encounter with another wife of Polish official.
I told her that the American people really like the Polish people.
She returned with : " Why ?"
( Hardly encouraging to a long conversation, but I persisted. ) I reminded her that there were so many Poles in America that Chicago is the second largest Polish city in the World.
Her response was " You only got the peasants and ignorants".
